Stepping into Inland Walk: The Journey
Where the island comes alive — one taste at a time
Walk into the green heart of Rarotonga on the Inland Walk, an intimate journey that perfectly blends nature, culture, and ethnobotany. Guided by locals Kura and Jacopo—and their four cheerful dogs—you will venture off the beaten path through ancient trails, vibrant taro plantations, and lush valleys. The relaxed pace invites you to slow down as you taste seasonal tropical fruits, wade through freshwater streams, and discover the plants essential to the island’s early canoe people. Along the way, you’ll spot endemic birdlife and listen to stories passed down through generations. The experience culminates with a gentle climb to a ridgeline offering breathtaking panoramic views of “The Needle” and the southern coast, where the emerald jungle meets the endless blue lagoon. Far more than a simple hike, this is an authentic, heartfelt encounter with the true soul of the island.

Route Overview.
The route begins with approximately 6.5 kilometers of mostly flat terrain, offering a gentle introduction to the walk. This is followed by a 2-kilometer ridge section that involves a gradual climb through lush inland forest. The trail reaches a maximum elevation of 180 meters, providing a moderate overall challenge. Along the way, there are a few short but steeper segments, all safely equipped with fixed ropes to assist your footing and balance. Your experienced guides will be by your side throughout, including during two shallow stream crossings where the water typically reaches ankle height.
Physical Requirements
To fully enjoy the Inland Walk, you should be physically able to walk comfortably for around four hours. Certain parts of the trail involve climbing and descending with the help of ropes, so it’s important that you feel confident navigating this type of terrain. For safety reasons, this tour is not recommended for those who have a fear of heights or suffer from medical conditions that affect the ankles, knees, hips, or back. Likewise, individuals with heart conditions, high or low blood pressure, asthma, or diabetes should consult with a healthcare provider before joining the walk. Guests over the age of 60 are more than welcome, but we do advise being in good physical condition to participate safely. Above all, your well-being and enjoyment are our priorities. Wherever possible, we’ll adjust the pace or route to suit your needs, ensuring a safe and positive experience for everyone
