Important Information
To enjoy the Reef Walk to the fullest — and safely — it’s important to come prepared and understand what to expect along the way

✅Route Overview. Your journey begins at the Ariimoana base, where you step onto the golden beach that lines the edge of the lagoon. From there, you follow natural sandy trails, gently shaped by water and time, leading you across the coral reef toward the ocean’s edge. As the path unfolds, you’ll reach the outer reef, where the waves rise and fall with powerful rhythm — a place where nature speaks with unmistakable clarity. To protect both your steps and the fragile marine world, we provide reef shoes to wear throughout the walk. You’ll be guided mindfully, step by step, by our local team — guardians of this place — ensuring a safe, respectful experience that connects you deeply to the reef’s vibrant life and spirit.

✅ Physical Requirements. To fully enjoy the Reef Explore experience, participants should be comfortable walking for up to 2.5 hours on flat but uneven terrain, such as sandy and coral-strewn paths. For your safety, this tour is not recommended for individuals who experience difficulty walking on uneven surfaces or who have medical conditions affecting the ankles, knees, hips, or back. While the pace is gentle and the terrain relatively flat, reef shoes are required and provided to help protect your feet and improve stability. As always, your well-being and enjoyment are our priority. Our guides will accompany you throughout the walk, offering support and adjusting the pace if needed to ensure a safe, respectful, and enriching experience for all.

✅ Important Advice. Please keep in mind that all tours are weather-dependent. If heavy rain or unsafe conditions are forecast, the walk will be postponed or rescheduled to ensure everyone’s safety — your well-being is always our top priority. In addition, Reef Explore takes place only at low tide, when the reef is safely accessible and the lagoon is at its calmest. Rarotonga’s climate is typically hot and humid, so staying properly hydrated is essential. To prepare your body for the walk, we recommend avoiding alcohol beforehand and bringing at least one litre of water. Remember to sip regularly throughout the tour to stay cool, energized, and comfortable from beginning to end.

✅ What to Bring. To make the most of your Reef Explore experience, we recommend bringing a few essential items to stay comfortable, safe, and connected to the environment. A wide-brimmed hat will protect you from the sun, and reef-safe sunscreen helps shield your skin while preserving the delicate marine ecosystem. Bring at least one litre of water to stay hydrated during the walk, and don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture the vibrant beauty of the reef and lagoon. With these simple essentials, you’ll be well prepared to enjoy the journey in harmony with the ocean.
